Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the added 0.28% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Shopify Inc (TSX:), which rose 4.35% or 70.13 points to trade at 1682.24 at the close. Denison Mines Corp (TSX:) added 4.12% or 0.07 points to end at 1.77 and Cascades Inc . (TSX:) was up 3.57% or 0.51 points to 14.80 in late trade.

Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:), which lost 7.34% or 1.25 points to trade at 15.78 in late trade. Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX:) declined 6.75% or 0.63 points to end at 8.71 and Linamar Corporation (TSX:) shed 3.01% or 2.41 points to 77.58.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 631 to 419 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.85% or 15.80 to $1840.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.10% or 0.07 to hit $72.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.30% or 0.22 to trade at $74.21 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.42% to 0.8171, while CAD/EUR rose 0.42% to 0.6794.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.72% at 91.157.
